PURGING

Purging happens when introducing actives in your routine that increase your cell turnover rate to exfoliate away dead skin. Purging will show up in areas where you typically experience breakouts. Everyone will experience the purging effect at different levels. Some may not experience it at all. All skin is different. If you are prone to breakouts, you probably already have pimples forming under the surface, so you are more likely to see a purge. Just remember that it’s only temporary if it happens, and it’s the sign that your skin care is working. A skin cell turnover cycle typically lasts between six to eight weeks, so this is also normally the amount of time it can take for an acne purge to die down.

Ways to help with purging

Ice 2x a day after cleansing by rolling an ice cube over any inflamed or acne prone areas for 2-3 minutes, then apply your products.

A strong skin barrier is crucial in healing. Make sure your skin is getting enough topical hydration: toner, facial mist, serums & sunscreen.

Don't Pick. It’s important to be mindful about minimising contact with your face! Your skin needs time to heal and ride out the purging process; touching your face increases your chances of breeding bacteria, and interfering with the purging process can worsen or prolong the flare-up.

Minimize direct sun exposure. The sun will darken the appearance of acne marks causing stubborn scarring.

Zinc, Omegas & Probiotics are key in the clearing process. Zinc reduces inflammation. Omegas strengthen the skin barrier & supports gut health. Probiotics reduce inflammation, improve gut health & improves nutrient absorption.

Omegas: DMK EFAs, Face Reality Balance, Nordic Health Omegas
Probiotics: Face Reality Restore, Thera-Biotic Complete
